It is just a short 5-minute walk from the acclaimed Robberg Beach. Choose from a variety of spacious luxurious bed and breakfast rooms and self-catering options. Our great grandmother lived on a farm halfway between Somerset East and Port Elizabeth in the Great Karoo. Legend has it that the farm was a perfect stop-over for travellers. Ouma Maggie was always ready and happy to see the distant dust of an approaching cart. It is this tradition of true South African hospitality that we seek to extend to our guests as hosts at Christiana Lodge. ith open spaces and natural light, colours of the earth and splashes of blue, modern finishes and clean lines punctuated by the character of wrought iron or aged cane, Christiana Lodge will transport you to a state of utter relaxation. When we think back to our days there, we remember joyful days, filled with abundance. It is this tradition of true South African hospitality that we seek to give to our guests by extending as far as we can the memories of our Karoo childhood through the architecture, the décor and our approach as hosts at Christiana Lodge. The Lodge has also been designed in such a way as to blur the distinction between interior and exterior in many areas, and is west facing to make the most of the spectacular sunsets and intense golden afternoon light that bathes Plettenberg Bay. The spacious lounge and dining area extends to exterior covered decks overlooking the swimming pool, allowing the restful smell and sounds of nature to envelop the senses, while open deck areas and secluded nooks in the garden provide the perfect resting place from which to soak up the sun. We have complemented this approach in the décor with colours that are reminiscent of the Karoo environment. The whole property, as well as the rooms, was fantastic. Christa and her team helped us with everything we needed, from reserving a table for dinner to planning our day trips. So much attention was given to the finer details, which made me feel extra special. The charming way how Christa is managing her modern lodge is one of the reasons, why we would definitely come back. The other reasons: very friendly staff, modern and spacious rooms, perfect breakfast, very quiet surroundings and a lot of excellent recommendations for activities and restaurants. A seemingly incongruous meeting place between an exterior wetlands environment and an interior style reminiscent of the Karoo right by one of South Africa’s most famous beaches, Christiana Lodge isn’t just unique.
